PROARCA/APM
The Protected Areas and Environmentally
Sound Products components (PROARCA/APM) are implemented
by The Nature Conservancy (TNC),
World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and Rainforest
Alliance (RA).
The protected areas management component is comprised
of three key strategies:
- Development of effective alliances for protected area management,
which is promoted through support of a legal and political framework
for improved management, in themes such as environmental services,
private lands and co-management, as well as instituional strengthening
of NGOs, governments, communities and the private sector.
- Improved financing for protected areas management,
which focuses on enhancing financial planning and management as
well as increasing leverage for complementary investments in protected
areas.
- Increased application of best management practices for protected
areas, through the promotion and application of key planning
and monitoring tools.
The environmentally
sound products and services component is coordinating efforts
in the forestry, agriculture, sustainable tourism, and marine products
sectors, in order to:
- Increase the availability of certified products, by
disseminating information on certification options, benefits and
requirements to producer groups and service providers, as well
as by building capacity in certifiable practices and technologies.
- Develop alliances for effective commercialization of certified
products and services, by providing access to information
on supply and demand for products, as well as by enhancing the
producer’s capacity to participate in innovative markets.
